Browning Hi-Power Patent Poster
The famed Browning Hi-Power 9mm pistol has a long history with US Special Operations personnel and the Central Intelligence Agency througout the Cold War and the Global War on Terror. It was issued to paramilitary officers in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, as well as to MAC-V SOG operatives. In late 2001, CIA paramilitary officers entering Afghanistan were issued Browning Hi-Powers and AKM rifles.
The Browning Hi-Power is a single-action, semi-automatic pistol available in the 9×19mm Parabellum caliber. It was based on a design by American firearms inventor John Browning, and completed by Dieudonné Saive at FN Herstal. FN Herstal named it the "High Power" in allusion to the 13-round magazine capacity, almost twice that of other designs at the time, such as the Walther P38 or Colt M1911.
The patent was filed on June 28th, 1923 and approved on February 22nd, 1927. John Browning passed away in 1926, the year before the patent was approved.
