Glow in the Dark Cryptograph Bookmark

If you're anything like me, then not only do you have a bookshelf full of histories and biographies, but you're also in the middle of several different books at any given time. Now you can mark your place with the Spycraft 101 Glow in the Dark Bookmark. This bookmark is 6" long, 1" wide, and .25" thick.

It's manufactured from Cyflect, a visibility enhancing material that is both reflective and photoluminescent. It’s made of lightweight, flexible vinyl that reflects white in the light and glows bright green in total darkness. Perfect for for signs, displays, steps, stairs and doorways, Cyflect acts as a reflective marker that not only glows in the dark, but is visible through fog, smoke and wet conditions.

What makes this bookmark so unique, besides the glow-in-the-dark properties? In keeping with the Spycraft 101 theme, this bookmark features a number code from the famous Hollow Nickel/Rudolf Abel espionage case of the late 1950s.

In June of 1957, FBI cryptographers succeeded in decrypting a number code they'd possessed since it was first discovered in 1953,  inside a hollow nickel which an alert and curious newspaper delivery boy received in exchange for the daily paper. The message read, in part:

"THE PACKAGE WAS DELIVERED TO YOUR WIFE PERSONALLY. EVERYTHING IS ALL RIGHT WITH THE FAMILY. WE WISH YOU SUCCESS. GREETINGS FROM THE COMRADES. NUMBER 1, 3RD OF DECEMBER.”

This information, along with other evidence gathered by the FBI eventually led to the arrest of Rudolf Abel, a Soviet spy living in Brooklyn, NY. In 1961, he was famously exchanged back to the Soviet government for Francis Gary Powers, the U-2 spy plane pilot who was shot down and captured on May 1st, 1960.

Keep your connection to espionage and cryptographic history alive with this glow-in-the-dark bookmark from Spycraft 101.
